軽井沢現代美術館

コンセプト

海画廊では、「海を渡った画家たち」の足跡を追っております。20世紀初めのパリ、そしてニューヨークでさまざまな革新的な美術運動が起こり、その影響を受け、諸外国へ活動の拠点を求めた日本人アーティストは300人とも500人とも言われております。日本がまだ貧しかった当時、異国の地において、心血を注いでの制作が海外で高い評価を受けた画家たちには心動かされるものがあります。1917年に渡仏した藤田嗣治は、1930年代エコール・ド・パリの寵児となります。この成功期にフジタに続けとパリに渡った画家たち。そして、やがてパリからニューヨークヘと新しい美術運動の拠点が移っていきます。当館のコレクションは長きにわたりその双方で制作し、発表し続けながら、高い評価を受けながらも、日本に帰ることを忘れた画家たちの作品を中心に集めております。パリでは藤田嗣治、菅井汲、長谷川潔、木村忠太。ニューヨークでは草間彌生、荒川修作などが核になっております。一方、国内においても同じように革新的な美術運動を実践した画家たちも多く存在します。私たちは革新者として広く世界の美術運動に身を投じた画家たちの姿勢と洞察力に多くの事を学びながら「今」を表現できないかと考えております。

私どもの小さなコレクションは、「海を渡った画家たち」を中心とした作品でしかありませんが、日本から世界の美術運動に挑戦し続ける、新しい世代のアーティストたちのコレクションも加わりつつあり、いつの日にか同時代を生きた双方の画家たちの夢の対決が実現できればと思っております。

軽井沢現代美術館について

軽井沢現代美術館は2008年夏、緑あふれる軽井沢に開館しました。
海を渡り海外で高い評価を得ている日本人アーティストの作品をコレクションし、テーマに合わせて展示をしています。
軽井沢駅から車で5分、高い木々に囲まれた傾斜のある道を進むと美術館のゲートが見えてきます。JRの保養施設であった建物を譲り受け全面的にリノベーションしています。軽井沢の自然の外光を取り入れたユニークな館内は、奥行50mのメイン展示室、2階企画展示室、ギャラリーに分かれており、ゆっくりと作品と向き合うことのできる空間となっております。
2階企画展示室ではテーマを絞った企画展を開催します。
2階ギャラリーでは版画作品から彫刻まで、コレクターの方にもご満足いただけるラインナップでご提案させていただいております。
レセプション前のミュージアムグッズコーナーにはオリジナルノートやバックを始め、来館の記念になるようなアートグッズを取り揃え、幅広いアーティスト書籍も自由にご覧いただけます。

軽井沢現代美術館へのオマージュ

ミュージアムとはアートと社会との出会いの場であり、社会とは人々のことであるが、その出会いの場が美しい自然の中にあれば、アートとの出会いの悦びは一段と高まることであろう。
軽井沢現代美術館は、雑然とした都会の喧騒と隔絶した軽井沢の林の中で、味わい深く美味なる息遣いの出来るアートとの出会いの場なのである。
優れた美術館には当然独自のコンセプトがある。
当館は、創設者谷川憲正氏の長年にわたる優れた美意識により、海外でも特に評価の高い日本人作家を中心として、油彩、立体、彫刻等、様々なジャンルの作品が収蔵展示されている。
人々は、草間彌生の絢爛たる色彩、細密なタッチや造形の奇想に驚き、近年世界的にも注目されている村上隆の絵画作品などになるほどと得心することであろう。また、奈良美智の魅惑的な個性に瞠目するとともに、今後が期待される若いアーティストの優れた作品も体感することができる。
印象派ばかりに食傷しておられる世の識者の方々に、そして美への感性に優れた若い美術愛好家の方々に、目が覚めるような現代美術の名品に接する至福を保証しつつ、必一見をお勧めする。
そして、展示作家の版画作品などが、リーズナブルな価格で手に入れることが出来るのも、この館の特徴の一つとなっている。

東京の中心、丸の内からほど近い世界有数の本の街、神田神保町。海画廊は“アートを一番買いやすいギャラリー”をモットーに、常時200点余りの作品を取り揃え、豊富な資料やデータをもとにご紹介しております。
老舗大型書店「三省堂書店神保町本店」4階のオープンスペースギャラリーで34年営業、現在は神保町すずらん通りにて新たなスペースをオープン。コレクターやサラリーマン、観光でいらした方など、全国から多くのお客様にお立ち寄りいただいております。
作品は、現在世界的に活躍している草間彌生、奈良美智、村上隆をはじめ、藤田嗣治、南桂子、元永定正、ビュッフェ、カトラン、サム・フランシスなど幅広いラインナップ。お買い上げ作品の海外発送も承っております。
2008年には避暑地・軽井沢に「軽井沢現代美術館」をオープン。海を渡り世界の新しい美術運動に挑戦し、国際的に高い評価を受けた日本人アーティストの作品を中心に展示しております。

Concept

We at Umi Gallery have been tracing the footsteps of those artists who“ crossed the oceans.” The epoch-making art movements in Paris and New York at the beginning of the twentieth century stimulated the Japanese art scene,and an estimated 300 to 500 Japanese artists moved their activities abroad. Some of them earned international accolades,and it is truly moving to see their works,the products of their hearts and souls in foreign lands when Japan was still a poor country. Leaving Japan for Paris in 1917,Tsuguharu Foujita gained a status as a rising star of the École de Paris.A long line of Japanese artists,following in his footsteps, went abroad to build their careers first in the French capital and later in New York as the center of artistic activities shifted there. Our collection is built around those artists who continued to work and show in these two cities over a long period of time,achieving a high reputation and yet not coming back to Japan : in Paris Tsuguharu Foujita,Kumi Sugai,Kiyoshi Hasegawa and Chuta Kimura,and in New York Yayoi Kusama,Shusaku Arakawa among others. Meanwhile, there were also many painters active at that time who remained in Japan and devoted themselves to equally revolutionary art movements.While learning from the lives and insights of those pioneers who plunged into worldwide art movements,we hope to represent the current age as well.
Our collection is at present built around those“ artists who crossed the oceans”. However, alongside our expanding collection of works by a new generation of Japanese artists who are based in their homeland, rising to the challenge of the world’s art movements, it is our ambition to someday provide a virtual arena for both groups of artists who lived in the same era but were separated by oceans.

Contemporary Art, Karuizawa

A museum is where art and society meet. As society is the sum of all people, when a museum is surrounded by beautiful natural scenery, it further heightens the pleasure of this encounter.
The Museum of Contemporary Art, Karuizawa is a fitting place to experience these artworks, which are allowed to breathe more fully amidst a wood far from the bustling crowds of the city.
Great museums are always based on unique concepts. In accordance with founder Norimasa Tanigawa’s long-standing keen sense of aesthetics, this museum’s collection centers around Japanese artists who are internationally esteemed, and spans many genres, including oil painting, 3D art, and sculpture.
Here, you can be startled by the dazzling colors, fantastic forms and finely detailed touch of Yayoi Kusama’s work, be won over by paintings by Takashi Murakami who has been attracting worldwide attention in recent years, and be struck with the fascinating individuality of Yoshitomo Nara, while being filled with excitement for a new generation of up and coming artists.
For those who have grown tired of impressionism, or for young art lovers with great aesthetic sensibilities I guarantee a blissful time with masterpieces of contemporary art. This is not a place to be missed.
Another aspect of the museum is that visitors can purchase prints or other works by the exhibited artists.

Located in Kanda Jimbocho, one of the world’s most prominent bookshop districts, just a stone’s throw from Marunouchi, the very center of Tokyo, Umi Gallery holds over 200 artworks on a regular basis. Staying true to our motto, “The easiest gallery to buy from”, we offer our artworks with a wealth of related information.
After 34 years in an open-plan gallery on the 4th floor of the Jimbocho flagship store of Sanseido, a large and long-established bookstore, we have now relocated to Suzuran-dori, Jimbocho. We continue to provide a friendly welcome to visitors from all over Japan, whether they are art collectors, office workers or tourists.
Our collection comprises a wide range of artists including Tsuguharu Foujita, Keiko Minami, Sadamasa Motonaga, Buffet, Cathelin and Sam Francis, as well as contemporary world-class Japanese artists such as Yayoi Kusama, Yoshitomo Nara and Takashi Murakami. We are happy to ship any of your purchases from the collection overseas.
In 2008 we opened the Museum of Contemporary Art, Karuizawa in the popular summer resort of Karuizawa, focusing on Japanese artists who went overseas to challenge new art movements of the world and thereby won international acclaim.
